Career Cruising, a career exploration company and a client of 360 Visibility, recently updated its search engine to better assist students in planning courses and exploring careers, and to make its software as interactive as the technology tools of today – such as Facebook and YouTube.
360 Visibility spoke with Cory Thomas, technical director, to find out what exactly Career Cruising did to improve its ccSpringboard guidance software and why the update was necessary. “Students can now search whatever they’re interested in for example colleges, careers and financial aid, and those results will be filtered automatically,” Thomas said. “Before, students would have to browse through all the different pages of our site – which was very time consuming – but now you can get this information all at once through the search bar.”
Thomas said that the search function gives students instant, valuable results and is featured on all pages of the Career Cruising website. He added that the company also created and uploaded videos based on specific careers so now, instead of reading through pages of text about a specific profession, students can watch interviews and testimonials from professionals.
The company also wanted to make it easier for students to connect with prospects in regards to jobs, internships or apprenticeships and therefore created a chat function on its occupation pages. Thomas explains that similarly to social media sites like Facebook, students can use the chat function to message a career coach and get an instant response and guidance.
“We wanted to provide our users with better information and allow them to quickly access the information that we have,” Thomas said. “We have introduced better tools that students are used to seeing and using every day. We wanted to present them with tools they like in a format they’re comfortable consuming.”
Thomas also said that Career Cruising has received a positive response in terms of the new search functionality and the career videos.
“The schools are saying that they love it,” he said. “It’s very easy to use and access. Some people didn’t know this information even existed but now it’s readily available to them.”
As for future projects, Roshni Patel, marketing specialist, said that Career Cruising is constantly working on innovations, stating that it recently added e-transcript capability for students and also developed Scattergrams, a program that shows students their chances of admission relative to the past results of other students who have applied to a school.
The company has also teamed up with SCRIP-SAFE International, a document security solutions company, to streamline the process for students applying to college. Now students can send electronic transcripts to any school in the world through Career Cruising by using SCRIP-SAFE’s secure delivery network.
Career Cruising has been a client of 360 Visibility since 2003. Our infrastructure team implemented Great Plains and Windows Azure IaaS software for the company.
