Christmas came early for small and mid-sized businesses hungry for smart, easy-to-use ERP systems when Microsoft released Dynamics GP 2015 in early December. This latest version of one of Microsoft’s flagship ERP systems, offers some excellent new enhancements.
Specifically, four core improvements herald this major release, each designed to up the product’s efficiency, functionality and self-serve quotient.
Consider, for one, GP 2015’s organizational account user authentication feature. This allows user authentication by way of their Azure Active Directory accounts. The shortcut saves them the burden of having to create new credentials beyond those they’ve already established for applications such as Office 365, Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online and other cloud applications. In such a password-happy age, the freeing-up of having to create yet another user id and password to log into the GP Web Client is a genuinely welcome development.
The software’s employee self-service functionality feature gives users a leg-up with the revised ability to manage and edit their own personal information, including such details as address, phone number and emergency contacts. Employees can also maintain accounts of their training and test results — and then send them off for approval from team managers, rather than requiring their superiors to manage the inputting for them.
In conjunction with this new release of Dynamics GP, there is now available a companion tablet application. Business Analyzer R7 is available for download from the Windows, iOS and Android app stores. This development caters to users’ taste for mobile business intelligence.
Workflow 2.0 gets some new features in this latest Dynamics GP version, which features such added functionalities as batch approval for general ledger — allowing users to create workflow processes that need to be completed before defined document processes; and the means for employees to control payables batches processing in a more streamlined fashion than ever.
Taken together, this quartet of improvements is merely tip-of-the-iceberg stuff for this latest GP release, which has garnered a torrent of enthusiastic reviews for its enduring innovation and relevance since its unveiling last month.
