Microsoft has expanded its Yammer bundle. The enterprise social software, used for private communication within organizations, has now been integrated with SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business.
The Microsoft Yamer integration first happen with Office 365 back in November, 2013, but the alignment with SharePoint and OneDrive will now allow users from various departments within an organization to get feedback from one another.
One of the features of the new integration is Document Conversations. This attaches Yammer conversations to files such as office documents, images and videos. So, when a user opens one of the files from SharePoint Online or OneDrive for Business, a Yammer conversation associated with the file will pop up. From there, users can get more information about the specific file from people who have been working on it previously.
Microsoft said that it is planning to roll out Document Conversations throughout the summer. Office 365 users will have to make Yammer their default social network for the Document Conversations feature to work properly. Microsoft also said that for now Document Conversations only works on internal networks – plans to expand to external networks are in process.
Yammer appealed to Microsoft so much that the tech giant shelled out $1.2 billion in order to acquire the social network. One of the highlights of Yammer is its ability to map relationships between employees and the information they share. This aligned with Microsoft’s plans of creating personalized experiences in order for companies to work more effectively.
Building on this, the company will release Office Graph in the second half of 2014. Office Graph has the ability to keep track of relationships between people and the information they share with each other be it through social networking posts, groups, replies, uploads and shares, or their collaborations through SharePoint, Lync, Office, Exchange and Outlook.
To transition customers into the Microsoft Yammer integration, the tech company included Yammer Enterprise in its Office 365 Enterprise licensing plans at no extra cost.
Being a Microsoft partner, 360 Visibility has received training on Yammer and how clients can use it to improve communications.
