Unexpected Business Central Update Settings Reset? Here’s What You Need to Know and How to Fix Your Environment Configuration
If you recently received a message from Microsoft about your Business Central update settings being changed – don’t panic. This wasn’t something you did, and you’re not the only one affected.
A recent service misconfiguration on Microsoft’s end caused update schedules in many Business Central environments to be reset. The good news? It’s fixable, and 360 Visibility is here to help you get everything back on track.
So, What Actually Happened?
Due to a backend issue, Microsoft unintentionally cleared the update preferences for a number of Business Central environments. As a precaution, they’ve now scheduled all affected environments to receive version 27.4 in February 2026 – regardless of your original update cadence.
This means:
- Your environment won’t receive any updates until February 2026 unless you manually change the schedule.
- If you were on a monthly or quarterly update cycle, that’s no longer in effect.
What Should You Do Now?
You don’t need to rush, but you do need to act. If you want to resume regular updates — or simply choose a different timing — you’ll need to reconfigure your update settings in the Business Central Admin Center.
Here’s how to do that:
✅ Steps to Restore Your Update Preferences
🔐 Note: You’ll need Business Central Global Admin permissions to make these changes. If that’s not you, please share this with your IT team or system administrator.
- Open the Admin Center
Go to:https://businesscentral.dynamics.com/[your-tenant-ID]/Admin
- Check Your Environment(s)
You’ll see a list of environments. If “Next Update” shows version 27.4, your environment was affected. - Select the Environment You Want to Update
Click the name of the environment to open its settings. - Adjust the Update Schedule
- Find the Update Settings section
- Click Modify next to “Next Update”
- Choose the update version and timing that works best for your business
- Click Schedule Update to confirm
- Repeat for Each Environment
If you manage more than one environment, you’ll need to repeat these steps for each one individually.
🧠 A Few Things to Keep in Mind
- You’re not applying an update immediately — you’re just setting your preferred schedule.
- Only versions that are released or officially planned will appear as options.
- There’s no bulk update tool — each environment must be updated separately.
- Global Admin access is required for all of this.
