Throughout the past couple of weeks, Microsoft has compiled a list of key factors businesses should consider when deciding to implement ERP solutions.

This week, I am going to talk about the benefits of the cloud and the role technology innovations can play when it comes to deciding which solution will be best suited for your business.

    Advantages of the Cloud

    First, the Cloud.

There are several advantages to using the cloud to run your IT operations. It offers low start-up costs and low initial hardware requirements; and reliable software management and system administration.

“Businesses should have some mission-critical applications on-premises, possibly for security or compliance reasons, while other applications are well-suited for the cloud,” Jenifer Dorsey, Director ERP Volume Marketing, said in a blog post on Microsoft’s website.

She suggests that companies that want to take their entire business to the cloud should phase it in in order to accommodate their operational needs.

    Innovative Technology

    Second, innovative technology.

Companies looking to implement a new ERP solution should ensure that they’re looking into innovative offerings and services. Dorsey said that ERP solutions should offer a ‘long-term technology vision’ and ‘consistent technology advancements. Companies should also ensure that they perform a detailed roadmap of the new technology and how it will roll out and incorporate into their business model.

Dorsey said that the roadmap should embrace new technologies like cloud computing and offer choice and flexibility; it should consistently improve interoperability with CRM and other applications thus improving productivity and reducing costs; and it should enhance the underlying technology platform which helps to simplify application integration and makes upgrades to new software easier.
