The recent release of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 is already making waves with businesses like yours. It tops previous versions of NAV with a host of improvements that make your life easier, several of which we’ve already talked about in previous blog posts. But there is one set of enhancements we haven’t talked about yet, and for many of you it’s probably the most important: productivity. What’s the point in investing in ERP software if at the very least it isn’t going to make you and your employees more productive?
Fortunately for you and me, NAV 2013 comes loaded to the hilt with productivity enhancements. There are a lot of them to discuss, so let’s get to it.
No PhD required– As discussed earlier, the new RoleTailored client interface is so simple and intuitive, you’ll spend almost no time training your employees. If you know how to use Microsoft Office 2010, you know how to use NAV 2013.
Tie a Ribbon’Round It – Just like Office 2010, NAV 2013 comes with that nifty ribbon at the top of the Action Pane, which makes sailing through NAV that much easier. The ribbon has tabs and groups, and has all the commands that are so important for your business. Even better, the ribbon can also be customized by each user to make the most important commands and functions simple to access.
Working in Style – NAV 2013 makes it easier to notice business data requiring immediate attention. For example, different styles are used on customer and vendor ledger entries to highlight the ones which have passed due date without being closed. Need to know if a customer’s credit limit has been exceeded? No problem. NAV puts it in bright red for you.
You Want It, You Got It – NAV 2013 comes with a bunch of filtering functions that make finding info a snap. You can use “find” to go to a specific row, or you can filter for specific dates using the super flexible data formulas and expressions. No more having to type out cumbersome date info like “January 1, 2012 – December 31, 2012,” now you can just type in “FY12” and have everything you need right there in front of you. You can also filter for your customers, or one of your colleagues’ customers. If you need to find it, NAV 2013 is there to help.
Shortcuts That Won’t Get You Lost – NAV 2013 has all sorts of shortcuts for making things easier. Similar to the way you can select all in an Excel sheet, now you can select all lines in a grid and use the options in the shortcut menu on all lines. You can also copy and paste rows from NAV by using the shortcut menu. For example, you can copy lines from the General Ledger or a list in NAV and then paste the lines into Microsoft Excel. Or you can copy lines from Excel and paste them from the Clipboard into NAV. You can also skip over different fields to quickly get to the field you want by pressing Enter. Partners can set up the feature according to specific customer needs and users are able to personalize it as they wish.
Get the Facts – New FactBoxes have been added, which can make information you use every day readily available. For example, there’s a FactBox that displays lot numbers per bin so warehouse personnel can have a quick overview of which lot is in which bin. And just so Cash Flow, Cost Accounting and Assembly Management don’t feel left out, there are FactBoxes for them too.
Having it Your Way Ain’t Just For Whoppers Anymore – NAV 2013 has a couple of key ways that users can make NAV work for them. A new GridLayout group type makes it possible for partners and developers to lay out fields in tabular layout using rows and columns, giving partners greater flexibility when designing pages. Also business critical ledger entries have been added to the Departments page which makes it possible for end users to build their own views based on these entries and link these views to their Role Centers.
Microsoft Dynamics NAV has always been central to your business’ success, but with NAV 2013, you can watch your productivity skyrocket. From the simple to the sublime, NAV 2013 makes the tasks you do every day easier, so you can get to the important stuff, like running your business.
