Outdated ERP hindered growth and efficiency

For decades, Syspro had been the foundation of DK Household Brands Canada’s operations. However, the system was showing its age with limited scalability, integration, and automation. The company was also under pressure to align with its global parent’s modernization strategy, which included adopting Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central as the standardized ERP platform.

Their daily operations relied on manual and disconnected processes. For example, EDI transactions, which were vital for handling large order volumes, required batch downloads and manual imports – which is a time-consuming task prone to human error. Also, warehouse and shipping systems operated in silos, creating inefficiencies and data blind spots.

Additionally, month-end closings were cumbersome and repetitive, requiring a two-step posting process and constant system oversight. The accounting team had to “babysit” roll-forward processes and manage multiple daily tasks just to keep reporting accurate. Compounding this, their reporting lived outside Syspro, creating delays and limited visibility into real-time performance.

To stay competitive, DK Household Brands needed to move to a modern, cloud-based ERP that integrated all aspects of their business — from inventory to invoicing — while offering flexibility, automation, and accurate analytics.

Modern ERP delivered automation and insight

360 Visibility began with a comprehensive Business Impact Assessment to understand DK’s operational pain points and map out a clear solution. Furthermore, the EDI integration via SPS Commerce automated transactions between DK and its trading partners which reduced administrative work and ensured data accuracy. For reporting, Business Central was connected to Tableau, giving leadership insights drawn directly from live operational data.

Finally, we modernized financial workflows, introducing automation in posting processes, real-time reporting, and flexible period management. This eliminated manual oversight and enabled faster, more reliable month-end closes.
